Title: Forester
Reports to: CEO, Ecotrust Forest Management, Inc.

Position Summary:

Develop, implement and monitor forest management plans and operations for both timber and ecosystem service production.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Forest Management
    • Develop and oversee the company's forest management strategy, planning and operations.
    • Develop and implement forestry activities on EFM-managed properties: preparing and securing approval of harvest plans; marking timber and overseeing harvest operations; selecting and directing contractors for road maintenance, biological surveys, road assessments and upgrades, aquatic restoration projects, property security, and restoration and reforestation treatments; and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and EFM policies.
    • Develop and implement property level plans, including road maintenance, insect and fire suppression, long-term conservation planning and monitoring, and development of good relationships with local communities and tribes.
    • Manage foresters, forest consultants, field staff and contractors for contract compliance.
    • Manage all forest product sales.
    • Manage general activities and monitoring necessary for asset protection.
    • Manage forest inventory and growth and yield modeling, and oversee the quarterly forest asset valuations, as well as FSC certification and verification audits of forest management and carbon, and ensure that staff and contractors are familiar with FSC and the Management plan for the property.
    • Achieve annual and long-term goals related to timber harvests, ecosystem services, and property management.
  • Acquisitions
    • Working with the CEO, play a key role in sourcing, structuring, evaluating and negotiating potential acquisitions.
  • General Management
    • Prepare annual budgets for EFM-managed properties.
    • Work closely with the CEO and Managing Director of Capital Resources in pitching the company to potential investors, and conducting forest tours for existing and potential investors.
    • Maintain a high level of integrity in all activities.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

It is required that the candidate have (at a minimum):

  • Ten years in the natural resource management fields.
  • Bachelors degree in forest management or related field.
  • Extensive experience with timber harvest preparation, permit process, harvest administration and supervision, timber marking, erosion control plans, and road construction and maintenance in Washington and Oregon.
  • Leadership experience with log sales and logging service agreement programs.
  • Experience with uneven-aged silviculture and watershed restoration issues and techniques.
  • Ability to interact well with diverse stakeholders, including public agencies, conservation groups and members of the local community.
  • Demonstrated initiative and commitment to conservation.
  • Good writing and organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

This position requires the ability to safely travel to and work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, and on difficult and hazardous terrain. Applicant must possess experience with forestry fieldwork (identifying harvest units; classifying water courses; identifying unstable areas; identifying archeological and historical sites, marking trees for harvest and retention, and establishing road and landing layouts); understanding of silvicultural regimes; simple statistical sampling and survey design; ability to identify a variety of plant and animal species; simple surveying and road engineering layout skills; proficiency with MS Word and Excel; familiarity with GIS and forest inventory systems.

This is a full-time, salaried position with an excellent benefits package, including retirement plan match, medical, dental and vision, and four weeks vacation.

Title: Guest Services Assistant
Reports to: Senior Event Coordinator
Location: Portland, Oregon
Status: Part time. Variable hours. Estimated 10 hours per week.

Summary:

The Guest Services Assistant is an important member of the Ecotrust Event Staff. This person will help us service the green meetings and events occurring here in the Natural Capital Center. The Guest Service Assistant will regularly setup and clean-up for events; this involves first and foremost moving heavy tables and chairs, as well as housekeeping and security for the event spaces. The Guest Services Assistant will also be a main point of contact for our clients', greeting them and troubleshooting during the event as needed. This is a part-time position which requires working early mornings, evenings and weekends on a regular basis. The ideal candidate will be able to be flexible with their schedule, punctual (especially in the morning shifts), and willing and able to move heavy furniture. Qualified candidates must be an effective team player and committed to Ecotrust's mission.

Background:

In the Fall of 2001 Ecotrust moved its headquarters to the Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center, an historic 1895 building in the Pearl District restored using environmentally benign building practices. The building has become a gathering place and marketplace for the exchange of environmentally and socially responsible goods, services and ideas for the Pacific Northwest. The Natural Capital Center features environmentally sensitive construction, a community of tenants and a very unique event center. The event center is an integral part of Ecotrust's mission of encouraging the exchange of ideas for a sustainable future.

Duties Include:

  • Main point of contact for clients on the event day
  • Setup audiovisual equipment and troubleshoot as needed
  • Setup and teardown for events (involving lifting 50lb tables and chairs)
  • Light housekeeping of event spaces, to include but not limited to: wiping down tables and chairs, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming and mopping floors, taking out the trash, recycling, and composting
  • Light office work
  • Building security (unlock and lockup)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Customer service experience
  • Highly personable and proactive
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot as needed
  • Able to lift 50lbs or more (must be able to move conference center furniture on own)
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Ecotrust
  • Familiarity and comfort with audiovisual equipment
  • Work well in a fast paced environment
  • Self motivated and proactive

Compensation: This is a part time, hourly position. Starting pay is: $13.50 an hour. Ecotrust is an equal opportunity employer.
